What therapy looks like

A typical course of therapy.

Most clients see real change in 8–12 sessions. Some need fewer; some choose to continue for support. We tell you what we're aiming for, and we check in on whether it's working.

Your first 4 sessions

  • Session 1: Intake — your story, what brought you in, what you want to change
  • Session 2: Assessment — clarifying goals, identifying patterns
  • Session 3: Approach — agreeing on what we'll focus on and how
  • Session 4: We're working — and we'll check in: is this helping?

Ongoing

  • Weekly or bi-weekly sessions, 45–55 minutes
  • Same therapist every time
  • Portal messages between sessions (clinical, not crisis)
  • Coordination with your PCP/psychiatrist if relevant
FAQ

Common questions.

How much does therapy cost?
For NY Medicaid Managed Care members (Healthfirst, Fidelis, MetroPlus, EmblemHealth, MVP, Anthem HealthPlus, Molina, UnitedHealthcare Community Plan), most members pay $0 per session. For commercial insurance, copays typically run $20–$60 per session — we verify your specific plan before your first appointment. Self-pay is $95/session.
Can I do therapy by phone instead of video?
Yes — research shows phone therapy is roughly as effective as video for most concerns. If you have weak Wi-Fi, privacy concerns, or just prefer voice-only, we'll accommodate that.
What if I need to switch therapists?
Switch any time, no awkwardness. Email us or message us in the portal — we re-match within 48 hours and your new therapist gets a brief summary (only what you consent to share).
Do you offer group therapy?
Yes — we run small NY-only therapy groups (6–8 people) for specific themes: NYC anxiety, immigrant family dynamics, LGBTQ+ identity, grief, perinatal mental health. Most groups are 8–10 sessions and covered by Medicaid plans.
Can teens use this service?
Yes — we have therapists who work with adolescents 13+. NY State has specific privacy protections for minors that we follow rigorously.

Therapy doesn't have to wait until you're in crisis.
