Are you a real doctor's office or just a service?
We're a real medical practice. Every clinician on our team holds an active New York State medical, nursing, or behavioral health license. We're credentialed in-network with NY Medicaid and all major Medicaid Managed Care HMOs. We carry malpractice insurance. We file claims. We coordinate with your other providers. The only difference is that visits happen by video or phone instead of in a brick-and-mortar office.
Where are you located?
Our administrative office is in New York City, but our clinicians work from across the state. We're licensed to provide care to anyone physically located in New York State at the time of their visit. We primarily serve the five boroughs (Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, Staten Island), Long Island, and Westchester, but we see patients statewide.
Can I visit you in person if I need to?
CallMD Now is a telehealth-only practice — all visits happen by video or phone. For things that genuinely need hands-on care (injections, full physical exams, pelvic exams, biopsies), we coordinate with in-network NYC partner clinics and your specialist network. We'll never make you figure out a hand-off alone.
What insurance do you accept?
We accept NY State Medicaid and all 8 major NY Medicaid Managed Care HMOs: Healthfirst, Fidelis Care, MetroPlus Health, EmblemHealth, MVP Health Care, Anthem HealthPlus, Molina Healthcare, and UnitedHealthcare Community Plan. We also accept Child Health Plus, the NY Essential Plan, and most commercial insurance plans (Empire BCBS, Aetna, UHC, Cigna, Oxford). See our
full insurance page for details.
What does a visit cost?
For most NY Medicaid Managed Care HMO members: $0. Medicaid pays for the visit; you pay nothing. For commercial insurance: copays vary by plan — typically $0–$40 for primary care or urgent visits, $0–$60 for specialty. For self-pay: $49 for a 24/7 urgent care visit, $95 for primary care, $135 for mental health, $185 for specialty. We always verify your specific coverage before your visit so you know the cost upfront.
Will I get a surprise bill?
No. We verify your eligibility in real time before every visit. If your plan doesn't cover the service, we'll tell you before you book. If we discover after the visit that coverage was different than expected, we eat the difference — we don't pass it on to you. This is a strict policy.
I don't have insurance. Can I still see you?
Yes. Self-pay visits run $49 (24/7 urgent), $95 (primary care), $135 (mental health), and $185 (specialty). If you might qualify for Medicaid, we'll help you start the application — many uninsured New Yorkers are eligible and don't realize it. Call us at (347) 497-3835 and ask for help with coverage.
How quickly can I get an appointment?
Same day for 24/7 urgent care — usually within an hour. Within 48 hours for primary care. Within 48 hours for mental health intake. Specialty visits are typically scheduled within a week.
Do you take walk-ins or only appointments?
All visits are booked, but our 24/7 urgent care queue functions like a walk-in — you book a slot, and you're typically seen within an hour. For primary care, mental health, and specialty, we schedule specific appointment times.
What if my appointment time isn't working?
You can reschedule anytime through the booking link in your confirmation email or by calling us. There's no fee to reschedule. If you no-show three or more times, we'll have a conversation with you about whether telehealth is the right fit.
Will I see the same provider each time?
For primary care and mental health: yes, always. For 24/7 urgent care: not necessarily — you'll see whichever NY-licensed clinician is available, but they'll have your full chart and history.
Can you prescribe medications?
Yes, for most conditions. Our prescribers can write standard prescriptions for antibiotics, antidepressants, blood pressure medications, diabetes medications, and most non-controlled drugs. For controlled substances (ADHD stimulants, benzodiazepines, certain pain medications), New York State has specific rules about telehealth prescribing that we follow strictly — these usually require at least one in-person evaluation.
Where will my prescriptions go?
To your pharmacy of choice. CVS, Duane Reade, Walgreens, Rite Aid, your independent neighborhood pharmacy — wherever you fill prescriptions now. Prescriptions are sent electronically and are usually ready within 30 minutes.
Can you order lab work?
Yes. We send lab orders to Quest Diagnostics, LabCorp, or any in-network lab. You walk in, get your blood drawn, and we get results within 1–3 days. We review and discuss results with you.
Can you refer me to a specialist?
Yes. We coordinate referrals to in-network NYC specialists at NYC Health + Hospitals, Mount Sinai, NYU Langone, Northwell, Maimonides, and independent practices. We send the referral, follow up to confirm the appointment, and review the specialist's notes when they come back.
What if I need emergency care?
If you're having a medical emergency — chest pain, severe difficulty breathing, signs of stroke, severe injury, suicidal crisis — call 911 or 988 (mental health crisis line). Don't wait for a telehealth visit. We handle non-emergency care; emergency rooms handle emergencies.
