What medication support means

The care between visits matters.

Starting or adjusting a psychiatric medication isn't a one-and-done event. Side effects show up days later. Effectiveness takes weeks. Questions come up at 11pm. Medication support is the ongoing layer of care that holds it together.

What's included

  • Portal messaging with your prescriber (clinical questions answered within 1 business day)
  • Side effect reporting and management — same-day response for urgent concerns
  • Refill management — no running out, no last-minute scrambles
  • Prior authorization handling — our team submits the paperwork directly to your PBM
  • Dose-adjustment visits as needed (15–20 minutes)
  • Lab monitoring for medications that need it (lithium, valproate, antipsychotics)
  • Coordination with your therapist and PCP
Common questions we handle between visits

What you might message us about.

These are real concerns we address every day. None are too small.

Side Effects

Is this a side effect of my new medication? Should I stop it? Should I worry? We'll tell you straight.

Missed Doses

I missed yesterday's dose — should I double up today? (Usually no, but we'll confirm.)

🤰

Pregnancy & Medication

I'm pregnant or planning. Can I stay on my medication? We coordinate with OB and review the evidence carefully.

💊

Drug Interactions

Another doctor prescribed me something new. Will it interact with my mental health medication?

🍷

How do I get a 90-day supply for international travel? How do I handle a refill while abroad?

FAQ

Common questions.

Do I need to schedule a visit for every medication change?
Usually yes for the first few adjustments — small dose changes can have real effects, and we want to track them. Once you're stable on a regimen, refills and minor questions can often be handled by portal message, with a follow-up visit every 3 months.
How long does it take to get a response to a portal message?
Routine clinical questions: 1 business day. Urgent concerns (severe side effect, can't stop a medication): same business day. After-hours urgent: page through the on-call line.
Can you refill controlled medications between visits?
Per NY State rules, controlled substance refills require recent contact with your prescriber and tracking in the state PMP. Most stable patients can get refills through a quick 15-minute check-in visit; some require in-person evaluation.
What if I run out of medication and my visit isn't for another week?
Don't panic. Message us. We can almost always arrange a bridge supply through your pharmacy or accelerate your next appointment. Stopping abruptly is rarely the right answer.
Do you help with insurance denials for psychiatric medications?
Yes — this is one of the most frustrating parts of mental health care, and we handle it ourselves rather than passing it back to you. If your plan denies coverage, our staff submits the prior authorization and appeals, often the same day.
